To
conduct the qualitative research, I carried out a very short and straight to
the point questionnaire. The planning for the focus group has allowed me to branch
out and get many detailed answers that would help me and for this reason I didn’t
feel like I had to add a lot in the questionnaire. This is the questionnaire I have
handed out to my target audience.

Focus Group Planning
1) I chose a focus group because this way I feel I can gather important information in detail. Open ended questions will allow my audience to give a reason for their answer.
2) My interviewee’s would be approx. 3 girl in the teenage
group as that is the audience I am looking for (16-19).
3) I need to think about the way I ask my questions and make
sure they’re relevant and will help me with the project;
- Are the images used appropriate for the double page spread?
- Who would be the target audience for this magazine? Why?
- What do you think about pull quotes in general, and what do you think about this specific pull quote.
- Do you think the colour scheme works with the magazine and the genre of the magazine?
- What do you think about the price? Would you buy it? What do you think is the appropriate price? E.g. what type of artist would you expect/ look for to feature on a magazine like this?
- What age group would this magazine is aimed at? What would attract them
- Is the location of the image appropriate? (Mise en scene)
- Is the magazine cohesive?
- Is the layout effective? (Too busy? Too simple?)
- Does the artist featuring seems appropriate and work well with the genre?
- What do you think about the variety, colour and sizes of fonts used? Does it work?
- What shot type do you think would be appropriate for the cover, contents and double page spread of a pop magazine?
- What do you think linked front cover, contents page and double page spread link?
- What would you change about the magazine if you
could?
- The ways in which my questions are asked about need to be thought about well so that I can get a helpful response. Some of the ways in which the questions are laid out may not give a straight answer, so I might have to add in another question that helps me get the answer I need.
Starting to think about the Interview
As we are going to be starting to construct our actual magazine fairly soon, I feel it is important to look around to see the target audience would expect. The interview is very important and to start thinking about possible questions to ask my artist, I have been looking at clips on YouTube where magazines have interviewed artists.
Research Task
We were given a task to conduct research, to help us gain some useful information about our target audience that would help us design our magazine. I will be conducting both qualitative and quantitative research as this would show a variety and also help me gain plenty of useful content.

Possible Artist to Feature in my Magazine
Tuesday, 8 January 2013
Feedback
The feedback from my media teacher Mrs Burne yesterday made it clear that the next step for me would be to think about who would feature as my chosen artist for my magazine. I am currently researching for local artists that would be suitable for my magazine however, I am also considering the idea of making up an artist from scratch due to it being hard to find an artist who would be suitable for the genre I have chosen for my magazine.

Further Analysis of Magazines
To get a stronger idea of how pop magazines are structured, I felt it was
important to explore different types of pop magazines. This would allow me to
collect more ideas and compare different layouts, and then reflect the ideas I
feel would be successful, on my own magazine.
