Focus Group Planning

1) I chose a focus group because this way I feel I can gather important information in detail. Open ended questions will allow my audience to give a reason for their answer.
2) My interviewee’s would be approx. 3 girl in the teenage group as that is the audience I am looking for (16-19).
3) I need to think about the way I ask my questions and make sure they’re relevant and will help me with the project;
  • Are the images used appropriate for the double page spread?
  • Who would be the target audience for this magazine? Why?
  • What do you think about pull quotes in general, and what do you think about this specific pull quote.
  • Do you think the colour scheme works with the magazine and the genre of the magazine?
  • What do you think about the price? Would you buy it? What do you think is the appropriate price? E.g. what type of artist would you expect/ look for to feature on a magazine like this?
  • What age group would this magazine is aimed at? What would attract them
  • Is the location of the image appropriate? (Mise en scene)
  • Is the magazine cohesive?
  • Is the layout effective? (Too busy? Too simple?)
  • Does the artist featuring seems appropriate and work well with the genre?
  • What do you think about the variety, colour and sizes of fonts used? Does it work?
  • What shot type do you think would be appropriate for the cover, contents and double page spread of a pop magazine?
  • What do you think linked front cover, contents page and double page spread link?
  • What would you change about the magazine if you could?

- The ways in which my questions are asked about need to be thought about well so that I can get a helpful response. Some of the ways in which the questions are laid out may not give a straight answer, so I might have to add in another question that helps me get the answer I need.
